The annual Whissell Spring AGMs & Safety Kick-Offs are now complete, with Calgary, Lethbridge, and Edmonton all seeing shops and presentation spaces filled to capacity with engaged participants and impactful presentations from the Whissell Operations and HSE teams.

Over the past several years, the annual Spring AGMs have evolved into more than just meetings — they have become seasonal Health & Safety Kick-Off events that help set the tone for the construction season ahead. This year was no different.

For 2026, the Health & Safety team developed and delivered a presentation focused on engaging all Whissell employees around three key themes:

• Better Conversations Lead to Better Outcomes
• Get Out and Look
• Let Them Dig

Each topic was intentionally designed to reinforce Whissell’s strong HSE culture while introducing focused goals and objectives aimed at driving measurable improvement across our operations.

Whissell was also pleased to welcome representatives from ATCO Gas, who spoke about the importance of following proper locate procedures before digging around buried or overhead utilities. Their presentation reinforced the critical role that planning, communication, and hazard awareness play when working near utility infrastructure.

Overall, the meetings were extremely well received across all locations. Participation was excellent, feedback was overwhelmingly positive, the lunches were outstanding, and of course, “Excavator Basketball” proved to be a crowd favourite everywhere it was played.
