To support Whissell’s vision, mission and S.P.I.R.I.T of values, the Parts Purchaser will be responsible for managing and maintaining inventory levels of shop supplies for all Whissell locations including Calgary and Lethbridge. The Parts Purchaser serves as the first point of contact for orders and supplies and applies knowledge to make order decisions that are safe, efficient, and cost-effective. He/she is responsible for the procurement of all parts within his/her assigned vendors while maximizing customer service levels.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill orders of parts and supplies necessary to maintain sufficient inventory of parts required by field/shop mechanics, welders, shop foremen, and servicemen
  • Issues and distributes materials, products, parts, and supplies to customers based on incoming parts requisitions
  • Communicate and make arrangements for orders to be delivered or picked up by field support drivers/mechanics/foremen or whomever it is designated too
  • Accurately receive all orders and ensure the products are being delivered/received by those that made the request and/or to the correct job
  • Maintain adequate inventory of filters, lubricants, ground engaging tools, spare parts, and shop supplies
  • Source specialized items from multiple vendors and negotiate with vendors regarding inventory and pricing to find cost savings on existing inventory items
  • Building/ordering service kits for regular maintenance (oil changes/services) on all parts of the fleet (including Lethbridge)
  • Ensure paperwork is completed in a timely manner (purchase orders and inventory transactions)
  • Complete purchasing for Lethbridge, including arranging for products to be delivered/shipped to the shop there
  • Maintain a clean and organized parts room and walkways clear of hazards
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 0 – 2 years of working experience
  • Interested or pursuing a Journeyman Parts Technician certificate
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license, clean abstract
  • Promote a positive and respectful work environment
  • Knowledge of various machines (heavy equipment, heavy trucks, pickup trucks, and other smaller equipment is considered an asset
  • Understanding of inventory systems and how to keep track of inventory levels (both through Eclipse and manual counts) is considered an asset
