Whissell is currently looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician to join our Calgary team. The successful candidate will display high attention to detail as they assist the Shop Team with various aspects of construction projects. Reporting to the Equipment Manager, the right candidate will support Whissell’s vision, mission, S.P.I.R.I.T of values, and three daily pillars of Safety, Quality, and Efficiency.

This position requires weekend availability.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Complete all required paperwork and adhere to company policies pertaining to Safety, PM program, and Service reports.
  • Perform daily running repairs, PM’s, and component overhauls to our fleet, as directed by Equipment Manager Shop Supervisor
  • Schedule equipment, Prioritize repairs based on needs of the shop and field
  • Mentor other team members as required
  • Perform all repairs and PM’s as per OEM guidelines
  • Work overtime when required
  • Work with various Hydraulic systems and perform electrical troubleshooting and repair
  • Volvo – Articulated Trucks and Excavators
  • Komatsu Excavators- Articulated trucks, Wheel Loaders, and Excavators
  • Terex Trash Master
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Journeyman Certificate Heavy Equipment Technician – On/Off-road
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license, Class 3 preferred, with clean abstract.
  • CVIP license an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years in the trade
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role
  • First Aid – Standard with CPR (Training can be provided)
  • RSTS or CSTS with WHMIS 2015 (Training can be provided)
  • Q endorsement preferred
  • Extensive knowledge in the Preventative Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and repair of the following product lines:
  • Caterpillar – Excavators, Dozers, Scrapers, Wheel Loaders, Track Loaders, Motor Graders, Scrapers, Articulated Trucks, Compactors
  • John Deere – Excavators, Dozers, Wheel loaders, Articulated Trucks, Track Loaders
  • Volvo – Excavators, Articulated trucks and Loaders.
  • Komatsu – Excavators, Dozers and Loaders.
  • Kenworth trucks and various trailers, Aspen, Peerless, Arnes, Doepker etc.
